The Narthex

Good evening, congregation.

As you all know, lockdown has now eased, and Black Abbey is very excited to welcome you into our beloved sanctum. We may not be able to tattoo and pierce you quite yet, but we welcome you to pop up, say hello and have a look at our shop, which we are gradually filling with handmade art, products, and crafts by some very talented friends of ours that we now stock in our shop.

We have dark and delightful (and often sweary) cross stitches by @_pieinthesky_, who is a well known Glasgow creator. Her talents don't stop at goth-stitches, 'Pie in the Sky' also offers cushions, patches, pin badges, lego dioramas and hand painted glasswares.

We have gloriously glittery resin trinkets by @sinful_heart,

All profits support 'Sinful Heart' creator Charli's gender affirming journey, information about which can be found here.

These spooky ghostly nightlights are by @toohottorot. 'Too Hot to Rot' are bringing you gothic inspired homewares to die for, all available on their etsy page, that help you create a spooktacular home, inside and out.

You will be able to find all kinds of art in Black Abbey, including prints and originals from some amazing artists. We are kicking off with these framed original artworks by the incredible talent of @jasmaidment.art,

Drop her a DM over on instagram for custom pieces.

One of our absolute favourite people, and calligraphy wizard, Toasty Type has created Bing Bong mail.

'Bing Bong' mail are the cards you send when a "get well soon" just wont cut it.

Created as a way to make her brother laugh after being diagnosed with Cancer in early 2020, 'Bing Bong' has gone on to become the go to card to inject humour into life's crappy situations, and they are helping Cancer support Scotland along the way.

Black Abbey has its very own signature scents with these decadent candles and diffusers by @ceramonstro.

Cera Monstro have a small collection of oriental inspired candle designs as well as the very popular 'Burning Boaby' which you can fine over on their Etsy page.

We have glorious fine body jewellery from some incredible suppliers, you can pop in to peruse our cabinets or book in for a jewellery consultation with Fiona.

Charity is something that will feature in Black Abbey a lot, You will have seen our first charity release a few blog posts back (if you missed it you can find all the details here).

We still have a few of our charity bundles and print packs available.

Each bundle comes with a set of prints by our Black Abbey resident artists, a scented jar candle by Cera Monstro and a sticker set.

And of course we have a selection of Black Abbey merchandise, including apparel, lighters, coffee, thermal mugs, tote bags and stickers!

We’re currently in the process of adding even more treats from even more independent local artists, and we can’t think of a better celebration of lockdown ending than treating yourself to something made by an independent creator or small business.

Black Abbey will be open its doors from Tuesday 27th April and will then be open for retail every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday after that.

Pop by 118 Blythswood Street (next door to Two Fat Ladies), say hi and treat yourself.
